Nearly every interpretation of this dream comes back to one question: who was steering. Driving is traditionally taken as a picture of how much control you feel over the direction of your life, so the details interpreters hunt for are the pedals, the brakes, the passenger seat and whether the road went where you expected. Brakes that do nothing are the most reported by a wide margin, and they are commonly linked to a situation the dreamer cannot slow down. Steering from the back seat, or finding nobody at the wheel at all, belongs to the same family and is read as responsibility without authority. Sitting as a passenger while somebody else drives badly is generally connected with having handed a decision to another person.
