The Chinese calendar changes month on solar dates, not on the first of the Western month, so October 2026 is shared between two Chinese months. The first week still belongs to the Rooster month, and the Dog month begins on 8 October, the day of the solar term Cold Dew, and runs to 6 November. This page gives the Chinese horoscope for the Dog month for all twelve animals, set against the background of the Fire Horse year that began on 17 February 2026.
In Chinese astrology every year, month and day belongs to one of the twelve animals, and the relationship between your animal and the animal of the moment shapes the mood. Some pairings are friendly, some are testing and some are plain. The Dog month is an Earth month, the last stretch of autumn before winter, a season of gathering in, tidying up and settling accounts. The Dog stands for loyalty, honesty and fairness, so questions of trust and fairness tend to come up in families, at work and around money.
Each animal's page explains how the Dog month meets your sign, with what to expect in love, work, money and health, the friendly and careful days of the month and a look at what follows in November. The month has two parts, marked by the solar terms Cold Dew on 8 October and Frost's Descent on 23 October, names that describe the cooling weather of northern China.
| Animal | Horse year | Dog month |
|---|---|---|
| Rat | Clash | Plain month |
| Ox | Harm | Plain month |
| Tiger | Group harmony | Supportive month |
| Rabbit | Break | Supportive month |
| Dragon | No special tie | Testing month |
| Snake | No special tie | Plain month |
| Horse | Own year | Supportive month |
| Goat | Close harmony | Testing month |
| Monkey | No special tie | Plain month |
| Rooster | No special tie | Testing month |
| Dog | Group harmony | Own month |
| Pig | No special tie | Plain month |
The friendliest signs this month are the Tiger and the Horse, which form a group harmony with the Dog, and the Rabbit, for whom the Dog is a secret friend. Expect goodwill, easier decisions and company that arrives without effort.
It is the Dog's own month. Energy and clarity are strong, Dogs are visible and their word carries weight, which makes October a good time to ask for what they have earned.
The Dog month tests three signs. The Dragon sits opposite the Dog and meets friction, called a clash. The Rooster meets a quieter friction, called harm, and the Goat meets small snags, called a break. None of these is a reason for alarm, and each is a reason for patience.
For the Rat, the Ox, the Snake, the Monkey and the Pig the month is plain. The calendar neither helps nor hinders, so your own choices decide how it goes, and it suits finishing, tidying and preparing for November.
The Dog month is a month of closing and checking. After the bright, fast summer, the Fire Horse year slows into autumn, and many of its themes come up for review: promises made earlier, money matters left open, relationships that need a plain conversation. The Dog does not respond to bluster. It rewards people who keep their word, say what they mean and finish what they start.
Because this is a Fire year, tempers can still run hot, especially for the signs the Horse year already presses on: the Rat, the Ox and the Rabbit, and the Horse itself in its own year. Slow down on messages written when you are tired, and leave big announcements for the days the calendar favours.
2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse. It began on 17 February 2026 and ends on 5 February 2027, the day before the lunar new year. Fire Horse years return every sixty years and carry a fierce reputation, though much of it is folklore. In Japan an old belief about girls born in Fire Horse years led many families to avoid having children in 1966, and births fell by about a quarter.
Modern astrologers describe the year as fast, bright and sensitive for four animals in particular. The Horse is in its own year, the Rat clashes with the Horse, the Ox is linked to it by harm and the Rabbit by a break. The Tiger, the Dog and the Goat are its friends, and the other animals have no special tie to it.
Not sure which animal you are? Your animal depends on the lunar new year, not on 1 January, so anyone born in January or early February should check the date. The Chinese zodiac page finds your animal from your birth date.
Chinese months follow the Sun and change on solar dates around the 4th to 8th of each Western month, so the dates on this page come from the Sun's position, not from the Western calendar. Your animal is compared with the animal of the year, the month and each day using the classical relationships between the twelve animals: harmony, clash, harm and break. This is traditional astrology, offered for reflection and enjoyment, and it is not a prediction of facts or advice on health, money or legal matters.
